Letter from UH Swimming Coach on pool status:

Aloha, August 22, 2007

I hope everyone has had a good summer. I have seen some of you around town and the question I am always asked is, “when is the pool going to open?” Well I have some good news and some bad news. Construction is still on going and it looks like late September before we will have the whole facility back. They are behind schedule and still have a lot left to do. The Good news is we can start back with Evening Master’s this Monday Aug. 27. The practice will start at 5:30 p.m. and go until 7:00 p.m. We have NO LIGHTS so we need to start as early as possible. We also have NO LOCKER ROOMS until at least Sept.17 or until further notice. The OUTDOOR showers work and that will be our only means of showering. The next question is when do we get to start Morning Master’s? I am hoping to start Morning Master’s on Monday, Sept. 10 at 5:45 a.m. I know this is later but we have no lights while the construction is going on and Sunrise is not until 6:00 a.m. The temporary lights from last year as of right now do not work, and the 2 lights that worked last year are done. Once Construction is over in the next few weeks I hope to at least have the temporary lights back online. I know this has been a SERIOUS inconvenience for everyone and there is no one more than I that hopes this construction will get done soon. I will keep you updated with any new developments that happen in the near future. Once again I would like to thank everyone for their patience during this time, especially the Morning Crew, and I hope to see everyone at the Pool again real soon.

Mahalo,

Victor
